Let’s do lunch means something totally different to me these days. It means MAKING lunch as apposed to sipping wine with friends and enjoying a midday meal. I have also discovered there are three types of mothers in the world. Those that make their children’s lunch the night before, those that make it fresh in the morning and those that palm it completely {to either dad, kids or cash}. I have tried a mix of options because anything that makes my morning witching-hour run a little smoother, is the secret to all happiness. YET, I still make my kid’s lunches on the morning of, rather than the night before. If I left it to Dad, they might starve and I don’t trust them to make their own because I feel that four packets of tiny teddies is just not ok.
I was curious as to what other Mums did so I asked them {twice} on my social media channels and I graphed their answers because I found it interesting {OMG who am I? What have these mini-mes turned me into!}. But look, it IS a bit interesting to know that most of us are making the lunches in the morning. I even timed myself the other day. It was a whopping 17 minutes to make four lunch boxes full of nutritious stuff for my little roosters. I need to remind myself next time that I am running late that lunch prep takes longer than I think. I was interrupted a gazillion times and these mind numbing distractions are the things that trip me up and time-suck my mornings {daily}.
So here’s what I found. Did you know that some Dads do the lunches? Wowzers. That’s great if your man helps out. I have plotted those guys below too but we really don’t mind what time he is slaving away in the kitchen. It could be morning or night, whatevs… I am simply impressed that there are some married guys with kids doing the lunch prep {I understand the single dudes have no choice but to suck it up}. Here’s what I found.

One thing that does make the whole process better is the lunch box itself. Cling wrap slows me down and I hate getting the rubbish back at me in the afternoons {not to mention the waste on the environment}. Buying items in bulk and dishing them into your own smaller portions really is cheaper, healthier and wrapper free. Nude Food Day is coming up in October… Have you heard about it? It’s a day that your school can register for and everyone brings their lunch to school completely naked {rubbish-free}. I would have freaked at this in the past, but since using a truck load of re-useable containers, I rarely package any other way since making a few slight changes.
I have discovered Nude Food Movers from Smash and here’s what makes them cool. The range is huge and everything works in with each other. The clear containers are best because I hate the thought of something secretly rotting inside a container somewhere and not knowing. Clear keeps things honest and appealing. The best part is they are really well priced {so much so that if one doesn’t come back home… I don’t have to rob a bank to replace} and they sell them at all the places I shop….eg. Sass and Bide, Country Road, Witchery WAIT….WHAT…. no sorry…I am dreaming. Reality is, I spend my time hanging out at Woolworths, Coles, Target and Kmart these days. It is seriously great that Smash has taken Nude Food Movers directly to the Mums. And you can also find the range at Officeworks because of that one hot corporate chick that never wants a squished banana in her Louis Vuitton. I used to be that girl…. and yes once I left a banana in my monogram canvas bag too long. How does such a pale fruit turn to such a brown stain and so fast? Ugh!
Up until getting one of these banana keeping babies… my kids didn’t like taking bananas to school for fruit break. Now they fight over who gets it. Go figure. No more squished naaa-na in our bags! It adjusts to every banana size too if you are wondering…
Here’s a game changer! Look at this shape. Wraps and salad rolls are the most likely things to be placed in Glad Wrap… NOT ANYMORE! This Nude Mover is rad.
My little girls are not in school yet, but when we go out, these containers are the best! And they stack like a tower which is fun for everyone.
So easy for sharing. Tinned pineapples with passionfruit {also tinned} is a hit in my house. Especially on those days when you are low on fresh food {of course that never happens and I am always very organised – NOT!}. Good back up option for every Mum’s pantry I say, and don’t worry, these guys don’t leak the juice. Good to know.
They are even fun for babies when empty
I love seeing their names on their boxes. I don’t know why but it always makes me smile. This size is perfect for fruit break and even the smallest containers have enough room for the name labels.
This goes a little against my no wrapper thing, but wanted to show you that there is enough room for two sandwiches or a little something else {like a pack of Tiny Teddys} in this size. Again I love the see through, no awful surprises left over the weekends for you to discover on Monday.
I have some great news! I have been telling all my school mum friends that Nude Food Day is coming up in October. This is such a great way to make Australia more beautiful and litter-free, one lunch box at a time. So that you are ready to pack your lunches wrapper-free, I have one prize pack of Nude Food Movers worth $50 to giveaway!
